“Come, I will show you the punishment of the great prostitute, who sits by many waters. With her the kings of the earth committed adultery, and the inhabitants of the earth were intoxicated with the wine of her adulteries.”
To understand this chapter, it is not enough to try to identify who this harlot is; we must take the next step and understand her fate. The purpose of this vision is to reveal the judgment awaiting the harlot—that is, the fate of unrepentant humanity. And what is that punishment? Scripture tells us plainly:
“The beast and the ten horns will bring her to ruin and leave her naked; they will eat her flesh and burn her with fire.”
In other words, humanity’s sinful alliance with evil will not end in triumph, but in destruction at the hands of the very powers it trusted. The grand deception of Satan is that:
- Mankind is in charge… they are “riding the Dragon”.
- Humanity will prevail against the King of Kings.
The truth, however, is found in Hosea chapter 8, where he writes:
“They sow the wind and reap the whirlwind.” (Hosea 8:7)
