I have learned a great deal from Paul, but there is still much I do not understand. I have a working conclusion about what he means when he speaks of the salvation of all Israel, but I recognize that other faithful students of Scripture have reached different conclusions. I am willing to keep studying. I am willing to be corrected. And I am willing to acknowledge that some questions may remain unresolved, at least for now.
God is God. I am not. And that is a good place for us to stop and prepare for a change in direction.
Romans 1–11 has explained the mercies of God—our need for salvation, God’s provision through Jesus Christ, the work of the Spirit, and the unfolding of God’s purposes for Jews and Gentiles.
In Romans 1-11, Paul taught us how to think. Romans 12-16, Paul will teach us how to live.
