Ephesus was a central hub for the ministry of Paul, John, and other early Christians, making it one of the most significant cities in early Christian history. And it makes sense that Jesus would address Ephesus first. They were a doctrinally correct, Torah-knowledgeable community of believers, responsible (approximately 40 years prior to this letter) for the evangelization of Asia Minor under the combined ministry of Paul, Aquila and Priscilla, Apollos, Timothy, and John. With all of that legacy, there was still a major problem.
