Episode 31 – Essays in Romans… 5:5 – Hope

May 25, 2026

What is my hope? My hope is the confident assurance in the work of Christ on my behalf. On the only day that truly matters, I will stand before Him and be judged. The hope generated by the words

“Well done, good and faithful servant…enter now into the joy of your Lord” (Mt 5:23)

give me a focal point as I walk through the day-to-day life events. That day that I stand before Him for the first time will fulfill the promise of Paul’s words here in Romans 5:5:

And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

The world may shame us. Tne world may attempt to denigrate us. If our hope rested in the world’s accolades in the here and now, then we would be ultimately destroyed on the day God judges us. But if our hope rests in the God of our salvation, there is nothing the world can do to us.
