Israel’s rejection of the Gospel does not mean God has rejected Israel. Paul himself is evidence of that. And just as God had preserved a faithful remnant in Elijah’s day, God had preserved a remnant in Paul’s day. Remember what God told Elijah?

“I have reserved for myself seven thousand who have not bowed the knee to Baal.”

Who reserved for Himself a remnant? God did. God’s choice. God’s action.

The lesson is simple but profound:

God chooses the remnant.

There may be times when it appears that God’s people are disappearing, that faithfulness is becoming rare, or that we are standing alone. Elijah thought he was alone. I am sure Paul felt that way as he watched his own Jewish brethren turn against him time and again.

But there will ALWAYS be a remnant.

Personal opinion here, but I believe the same can be said for the Church at large ever since the “Church” became a thing in the 1st century. Many people will show up on any given Sunday. But not everybody will stay.

There will ALWAYS be a remnant.

Whether this “remnant” principle is contextualized as Israel vs. “True Israel”, or the Church “visible” vs. the Church “invisible”, the principle is the same…

There will ALWAYS be a remnant.
